A Look Back At An Industrial Machinery Accident Case: Improper Machine Guarding|PA Injury Lawyer

I recently heard from a prior client, who was also one of the nicest guys I know.  I was happy to hear that he is doing well and that the settlement we obtained for his industrial machinery accident case is one of the reasons he is doing well.

My client was 26 years old when his unfortunate industrial machinery accident happened.  He was a full-time machine operator at a factory in Chester County, PA and also worked part-time as a volunteer fireman.

My client operated a machine that converted a "parent role" of toilet paper into individual rolls of toilet paper.  On the night of the accident, some paper shreds got jammed in an opening, which required my client to manually remove the shreds.  While attempting to remove the shreds, my client inadvertently turned on the machine and his left arm got drawn into a nearby in-running nip point.  As a result, he suffered a catastrophic degloving/crush injury.

Because of his horrific injuries, my client had to have numerous surgeries.  In addition, his earning capacity was significantly reduced after his accident.  He no longer could use his left arm and started to have problems with his right arm because of overuse.  My client's life was significantly affected.

One of the main reasons that my client's left arm was injured was because the nip point did not have a guard which violated relevant OSHA and accepted industry standards. Having guards on nip points is one of the fundamental requirements necessary to protect machine operators from getting injured.

Fortunately, we were able to help him and obtained a significant multi-million dollar settlement.

It always makes me happy when I know I helped an injured worker get back on his feet and take care of his future.
