Last month, there were several dog attacks across the country that sadly resulted in serious injury or fatality of the victims.  All of the victims were toddlers under the age of 5.

Pit Bull Attacks 2 Year Old Girl

In Texas, a 2 year old girl was attacked by a neighbor’s pit bull.  The dog just came up to the girl, sniffed her, and suddenly bit her.  The mother immediately jumped in, shoved her fist into the dog’s mouth and then bit off its ear.  The girl has scars on her face from the vicious dog attack, and the mother temporarily lost the use of her arms from the injuries she sustained in the dog attack.

Pit Bull Attacks 5 Year Old Boy

In Alabama, a 5 year old boy was playing in his yard on a Sunday afternoon when he was attacked and killed by a neighbor’s pit bull.

Family Lab/Pit Bull Mix Attacks Toddler

In Maryland, a family dog attacked a toddler in his home.  The dog was a lab/pit bull mix.  The father was in another room when the dog attacked the toddler in the living room.  The father heard screaming, ran into the living room and saw that the dog had his jaws in the boy’s face.  The father had to rip the dog’s jaw open and saw that his son was missing half of his face.  The dog has been with the family for 3 years.

Injuries From Dog Attacks

Many victims of dog attacks are young children, who are often bit in their faces because they are the same height as the dogs.  As a result, children often need reconstructive surgeries and may have permanent scars.  In addition, as the children get older, they will need future reconstructive surgeries to remove the scars.

Not only do the children have permanent scars, they may also be scarred emotionally.  They may be afraid of dogs in the future and have anxiety issues when they are around other dogs.

Children may have legal rights against the dog owners, who have a duty to keep their dogs under proper and reasonable control.  If your child was attacked by a dog in PA or NJ, call Daniel J. O’Brien, a personal injury lawyer who has helped children attacked by dogs obtain financial compensation.  Call 877.944.8396 to schedule a FREE consultation.
