Drunk driving is a topic near and dear to my heart. I've represented many clients who were victimized as a result of a DUI driver. It absolutely drives me mad that a drunk driver's irresponsibility leads to serious accidents and injuries and sometimes, even death. Just today, Philly.com posted a news article about an off-duty state trooper, John Quigg, Jr., who often investigated crashes on the Schuykill. He was charged with a DUI this past December. He was killed early this morning when he drove his car the wrong way on I-76, severely injuring an innocent driver, a young woman from Philadelphia. It is believed he was driving while intoxicated when he caused this accident.
In these DUI car accident cases, punitive damages can sometimes be another source of recovery for the injured victim. Punitive damages are designed to punish the wrongdoer and send a message. Pennsylvania law recognizes punitive damages in DUI car accident cases and we've been successful in adding these claims to our clients' cases.
