I want to talk to you about what I call sports and recreational accident cases. These are the types of cases that I have really taken a strong liking to.
Let me explain my background and why I have a unique view of these types of cases. I have been an athlete my entire life. When I was a kid, I played every sport. I ended up playing at a fairly high level when I got a little bit older.
After I grew up, I got involved with triathlons. I have done well over 100 triathlons.
I have done multiple Ironman races. I have done long distance marathon swim events, road racing with bicycles, mountain bike racing, etc.
I am very deeply involved in coaching youth sports. I am the athletic director of my children's grammar school. I am on the legal committee of USA Triathlon, the governing body of the sports of duathlon and triathlon and the organization that actually sends the United States Olympians to the Olympic games. I am also the president of the Township Recreation Association where I live.
Now, being a personal injury lawyer and doing all of that stuff and being active in all those activities naturally led people to ask me to represent them if they got injured in a mishap or an accident that happened in the context of one of these types of sports or recreational activities.
These cases have ranged from racing accidents, where there is a question with the course set up or the course management, to crazy things like cars entering a closed race course, causing an accident. Other accidents include:
There are a couple of things that these cases all have in common that present somewhat of a unique challenge both for me as a lawyer and for an individual injured in these types of events.
