Car accidents happen every day in Philadelphia and suburbs of Pennsylvania.  Many of them result in fatalities.  Yesterday, there were 2 serious fatal motor vehicle accidents in Northeast Philadelphia.

51 Year Old Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit By Pickup Truck While Crossing A Street

Around 5 a.m. yesterday, a 51 year old woman was killed while walking across a street in Bucks County.  According to a witness, the woman had left Wawa, walked across a busy road and was hit by a pickup truck.  The woman was possibly talking on her cell phone as she was crossing the road.  The pickup driver stayed on the scene and told police that the woman came out of nowhere.*Source: www.nbcphiladelphia.com (Woman Dies Trying to Cross Busy Road After Visit to Bucks County Wawa)

The sudden loss of a loved one due to a car accident often causes great financial stress for surviving family members.  They may be left with numerous medical bills and funeral costs, which can be staggering.  Many family members may not know that funeral costs may be covered by their loved one's auto insurance policy.  If the deceased car accident victim bought optional PIP benefits to cover funeral costs, the coverage can provide up to $2,500 of funeral costs.

Another legal option family members of deceased car accident victims may not know is that they may file tort claims or lawsuits against the at-fault drivers.  Surviving family members may file wrongful death lawsuits for the loss of their loved ones.  A surviving wife may financially recover for the loss of support or companionship from the loss of her husband.  Parents who lose a child in a car accident may also financially recover for the loss of their child.

An action related to a wrongful death lawsuit is a survival action, which includes claims the deceased victim may have after the accident and up until the time of death, such as the pain and suffering the deceased victim sustained while in a hospital for a period of time.

Of course, no amount of financial recovery can compensate for the loss of a loved one, but it is the only way families of deceased victims can seek justice.
