We all know that rates of cancer are increasing. In fact, skin cancer rates have risen since 1997 and will continue to do so. Melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer, is now clearly associated with tanning beds.
A recent University of Minnesota study shows that those who use tanning beds have a 74% increased risk of developing melanoma. The study was published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.
Young people are often at increased risk because of the popularity of tanning bed use.
The FDA may soon require additional warnings on tanning beds and may also require parental consent for those under the age of 18.
