Two Fridays ago, a young girl in Philadelphia was bitten multiple times by a pit bull at her babysitter's home in Southwest Philadelphia.  Click here for the news article: Young Girl Bitten Multiple Times By A Pit Bull In Philadelphia, PA| PA Dog Bite Injury Lawyer

After helping many victims of dog bites and attacks in PA and New Jersey, we have seen similar situations where a young child was at familiar place, such as a friend, a relative or a babysitter's home, and was attacked by a dog in the home.   Oftentimes, we don't speak to the victim and the victim's parents/guardians until years after the attack.

When we finally meet the minor victims, their parents/guardians often tell us that they did not contact a lawyer earlier because they didn't know they could bring a lawsuit. Another reason is because they didn't want to bring a lawsuit against the friend or relative.  When parents see that their child continues to need medical care, such as plastic surgery or continues to suffer psychologically after the traumatic attack, they then begin to explore legal options for their child.

Some victims we were able to help, but others we were not because too much time passed, which resulted in problems with the case.  For example, the owner and the dog may have moved, and we couldn't find the owner.  Another problem is that the minor didn't seek treatment for the emotional trauma caused by the dog attack.  When too much time has passed, another problem is locating police records or local and county health department records.

If your son or daughter was attacked by a dog and sustained injuries, it is important that you speak to an attorney about what you need to do to protect your child.  You may need to file a report with the police or obtain records from the county's animal control office.  Being attacked by a dog can leave lasting emotional scars, as well as physical scars for your child.  Talk to a PA dog bite injury lawyer about your child's case.  We also help victims of dog attacks in New Jersey.

I guess the girl should receive what was rightfully hers (medical benefits for example). And I believe in order to get it, she really need the help of an injury lawyer. They can advice you on what you should do.
