Inadequate secuirty at apartment building

Our client lived in a 17th floor apartment in a high rise apartment building in Center City, Philadelphia. The building has a tiered “wedding cake” design, so that there is a flat roof outside the windows of the upper floor apartments, including our client’s apartment. Once morning, an intruder climbed through the window of his apartment, assaulted him and stole a couple of small electronic devices. We sued the building owner and the apartment management company for inadequate security. The case was settled during trial for $350,000.
