I recently became a roofer and worked at a construction site. One day, I tripped over something, fell off the edge of the roof and am seriously injured. Is there supposed to be some type of fall protection on the roof?

A:

Yes.  There definitely should have been a fall protection system on the roof.  There are several fall protection systems that can be used at construction sites pursuant to OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1926.501-503:

1. Guardrail systems;
2. Safety net systems;
3. Personal fall arrest systems;
4. Positioning device systems, and/or
5. Warning line systems.

Click here for more information about the different types of fall protection systems.

In addition to having fall protection systems, the workers need to be properly trained on using the fall protection systems correctly.

If there was not a fall protection system on the roof you were working on, you can discuss your fall accident with our Pennsylvania and New Jersey construction and industrial accident lawyers. Call 877.944.8396 for a free consultation.

Even if there was a fall protection system on the roof you were working on, you may still have a case if the system was improperly installed.
