Sadly, a 10-month-old baby was attacked by his grandparents' dog, a pit-bull mix and died as a result last Tuesday night in North Carolina. The baby boy was under the care of his grandmother at the time of the attack.
The grandmother tried to intervene and save the baby, but was also injured during the process. The baby had multiple bites all over his body and died at the hospital that night.
The pit-bull mix dog was rescued from the streets by the baby's grandparents 2 years ago.
The grandmother said that the dog has never showed any aggression toward the baby before; however, the dog did previously bite an older boy in the house in a separate incident.
About 4.5 million people in the United States are bitten by dogs per year. Young children, between ages 5-9, account for the highest percentage of victims who require medical attention after a dog attack.
