This year, White and Williams LLP adopts Sheridan Elementary School, a K-5 school in the Allentown School District. Allentown is about an hour north of Philadelphia. This is the third year of White and Williams' “Adopt A School” initiative. The program was launched as the firm’s way to give back to the community. During the first year of the initiative, the firm adopted Masterman High School in Philadelphia, and last year, the firm adopted Spring Garden Elementary, another school in Philadelphia. The initiative was a great success providing resources and funding to the schools.
The "Adopt A School" program started last year as one of the ways the firm is giving back to the Philadelphia community by helping and supporting a Philadelphia school. For other community outreach programs, see The Teen Driving Summit Program: No Texting While Driving Program.
White and Williams is committed to investing in education. Many Pennsylvania schools in the public school system are in need of assistance and funding, like Sheridan Elementary School.
Sheridan Elementary School has about 800 students and has a large percentage of economically disadvantaged students, roughly 56% more than the state average.
During an assembly at the school in September 2014, the firm announced its 2 year commitment to the school. The school was presented with the firm’s donation of one uniform shirt for each of the students at the school. The firm also donated school supplies which help take some of the financial burden off of families. The supplies were donated by the lawyers and staff at White and Williams.
The firm will work with the school in the next 2 years to explore other support the firm can provide such as mentoring and/or other activities that will connect the students and the lawyers.
