Bike Accident & Injury Prevention Alert: BMX Helmets Recalled

Posted on Apr 04, 2013

ToysRUs BMX Bike Helmets Recalled

Last week, 2,500 BMX bike helmets were recalled due to a potential for malfunction of the helmet safety strap. The strap may be subject to inadvertent release, allowing the helmet to fall off the rider. While no injuries have yet been reported, the potential for failure of the strap poses a very serious risk of head injury.

The Bell Full Throttle Bike Helmets were manufactured in China and imported by Bell Sports Inc. of California. They were sold exclusively in retail Toys R Us stores as well as online via ToysRUs.com between the summer of 2012 and January 2013.

Those who own this product can contact the importer for a full refund. Bell Sports Inc. can be reached toll-free number at (866) 892-6059.

Bike Helmets are Vital to the Safety of Riders and Can Prevent Head Injuries

In the past 10 years, brain and head injury research have come a long way. We now know and understand that head injuries can cause long lasting deficits and that second impacts must be avoided, especially for young, developing brains. That's why youth bike helmets are crucial. A well-fitted helmet can prevent serious head and brain injuries. Related article: The Hidden Danger of Ill-Fitting Helmets

Unfortunately, in situations involving a bike helmet recall, many people who own the recalled helmet never learn of the recall and will continue using the product.
