Exercise Equipment Recalled Because of Risk of Head and Neck Injuries

Posted on May 20, 2010

ICON Health and Fitness has issued a voluntary recall on thousands of weight machines because of a risk of the user falling and suffering a serious head or neck injury during use.

The products in the ICON inversion bench recall include:

  • Nordic Track Revitalize
  • Gold's Gym
  • Weider Club

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the ankle clamp on a recalled inversion bench can break unexpectedly, posing a risk of serious spinal, neck or head injuries. So far, there have been at least 75 reports of the straps breaking and 23 reported injuries in connection with the recalled fitness equipment.

The inversion bench recall includes roughly 33,000 benches, sold at sporting good stores and other retailers, such as Walmart and Sears. The benches were priced at $200-$300 and were sold throughout the United States between April 2008 and February 2009.

Consumers who are injured while using a defective product, including defective or recalled exercise equipment, have the right to pursue a personal injury or product liability claim in order to receive compensation for their injuries

When talking to a Philadelphia product liability lawyer about the strength of your potential product liability case, you will discuss the cause of your injuries, current and future medical treatments, and how your injury from a defective product has impacted your life and ability to work as all of these factors play a role in your claim.

A defective product will typically fall under one of the 3 following categories:

  • Possesses critical design defects
  • Product malfunctions or was poorly manufactured
  • The product was mislabeled or failed to carry adequate safety warning
