Fire and Burn Hazard Prompts Candle Recall

Posted on Dec 20, 2010

December 20, 2010 - General Wax & Candle Company, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is recalling about 12,000 of its silver Metallic Pillar Candles because of a fire hazard.

Metallic paint that is emblazoned on the candles could ignite, posing the risk of a fire, which could lead to burn injuries or property damage. Thankfully, no injuries or incidents involving the candles have been reported.

The defective candles involved in the recall were sold in 2 sizes:

  • 2.8 inches by 4 inches; and
  • 2.8 inches by 6 inches.

The UPC codes of the affected candles are 86718 56082 or 86718 56092. They can be found at the bottom of the candles' plastic wrapping. "Metallic Pillar Candle" is printed on the canister.

The defective products were made in the United States and sold only at Bed Bath & Beyond retailers across the country from October through November of 2010. They were priced at $8 to $10.

The CPSC is advising consumers to stop using the candles immediately. The silver Metallic Pillar Candles can be returned to any Bed Bath & Beyond retailer or General Wax & Candle store for a refund. For more information about this recall, you can call General Wax & Candle: 1-800-543-0642.
