Nordica Charged Civil Penalty after Failing to Report Defective Skis

This settlement stems from claims that expressed Nordica USA purposely failed to report a safety defect with the XBi ALU skis binding plates, which could break or crack leading to a fall hazard.

In the fall of 2008, Nordica USA was notified of about 200 reports pertaining to the skis either cracking or breaking. However, the company failed to disclose this information to the CPSC and continues to deny that they knowingly violated the law in any capacity.

Eventually (in Feb. 2009), a recall on the skis was issued and there have been no reports so far of injuries. However, federal law mandates that manufacturers, distributors and retailers contact CPSC as soon as they are aware of any defect in a product which could lead to a serious or fatal injury.
