PA Dangerous Products Law & News – Kids Water Bottle Recall

Posted on Sep 18, 2015

On September 17, 2015, Zak Designs recalled about 178,000 kids water bottles due to a choking hazard.  The recall involves 26-ounce water bottles, which are 10 inches tall.  They have a flip-top spout on a twist-off cap with colored inner plastic straws.  The straws come in different colors: clear, blue, gray, green, light purple or red.

The inner plastic straw in the flip-top portion of the cap can break, posing a dangerous choking hazard for kids.  There have been 9 reports of the straw breaking, and 7 of them included reports that the broken fragments were spit out by children using the water bottles.  Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

The recalled water bottles were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide from June 2015 through July 2015 for about $10.

If consumers have these cups, they should stop using them immediately and contact Zak Designs to receive a free replacement cap with straw.
