recalled defective strollerOn June 14, 2012, 36,000 strollers in the U.S. and 270 strollers in Canada were recalled by Kolcraft after 5 reports of injuries to 3 children and 2 adults.  All 3 children's fingertips were amputated, and the 2 adults' fingers were either smashed or lacerated.

The hinge mechanism on the stroller forms an opening when locking and unlocking to adjust the handle bars on the stroller, and a child or an adult's finger can be caught in the opening.  (See picture on the left.)

The description of the stroller is as follows:

  • Recalled model numbers: starting with ZL002, ZL005, ZL008, ZL015 and ZL018;

  • The model number and date of manufacture on the ZL002 model is printed on a sticker above the left wheel.

The strollers were priced between $150 and $160 and sold from January 2006 and June 2012 at the following locations:

  • Juvenile product specialty stores nationwide;
  • Online at Amazon.com;
  • Target.com; and
  • ToysRUs.com.

Consumers should immediately stop using the stroller and contact Kolcraft to receive a free repair kit.

Finger amputations and lacerations are common injuries suffered as a result of defective recalled strollers.  Even if the stroller was not recalled, the product can still be defective if it causes injuries to your child or to you.  It is important to talk to an experienced PA & NJ dangerous product attorney about a potential dangerous product claim if your child or you were injured by a defective stroller.

When a dangerous or defective product leads to serious injuries, compensation may be available. To see if you have a legitimate claim worth pursuing, you should immediately seek assistance from a Pennsylvania and New Jersey defective product attorney. An attorney will explain the options you may have available and if you could be entitled to receive rewards for your injuries.
