February 3, 2011 - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada are recalling 165,000 Cachet swivel chairs because they pose a fall hazard.
The recalled chairs were manufactured in the United States by Steelcase Inc. from May 2002 to October 2009 under the model number 487. The chairs have plastic, slotted back and seat designs and some were sold with seat and back cushions. You can find the manufacture date and model number under the chair's base.
These Cachet swivel chairs were sold nationwide at Steelcase dealers and retailers including CSN, Healthy Back Store, Office & Company, Home Office Solutions and Sam Flax stores from May 2002 to November 2009 for around $600. They were also sold online.
The part supporting the front seat of these chairs can crack, causing users to fall and suffer injuries. Steelcase, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is aware of one report of a chair failing, leading to a back injury.
If you purchased your chair online or from any of the retail outlets listed above, Steelcase will replace your recalled swivel chair. The company will also replace the faulty chair part for any commercial customers who purchased the recalled chairs in quantity. Meanwhile, you can download instructions for inspecting your chair for cracks.
You should contact Steelcase for a replacement chair even if you do not find any cracks: 1-800-391-7194.
Dangerous products, such these recalled swivel chairs, could lead to serious injuries and medical expenses as well as the need to consult with a Philadelphia dangerous products lawyer to discuss legal options.
