The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled about 6,500 plastic folding step stools because of fall hazards. The Task*It 1-UP folding step stool can crack or break and collapse, causing a significant hazard to the user.
The step stools are made by Cramer LLC, and there have been 14 reports of the stools breaking. Two reports included injuries to the head, neck and back of the user.
Users should stop using the step stool and contact the company for a free replacement. The step stools were sold at office supply stores like Staples and also online at Amazon.com from January 2012 - December 2012.
If you were injured by a recalled product, such as a step stool, it is important that you keep the product for inspection should you decide to pursue a dangerous products claim against the manufacturer for your injuries.
Though falling off a step stool may cause minor injuries to most people, it can cause significant injuries to the elderly. The fall can result in hip, leg or arm fractures which may require painful surgery.
If the design of the product was defective, the injured consumer may bring a claim against the manufacturer. However, only an experienced products liability lawyer can help the consumer assess the case.
If you were injured by a defective or recalled product, feel free to contact the products liability lawyers at White and Williams, LLP for more information. 877.944.8396
