September 10, 2010 - Cumberland County, Pa. - A 16-year-old boy drowned while staying at a Quality Inn located in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania at the end of July.
According to reports from Pennlive.com and local law enforcement agencies confirmed that the boy died about 10:15 p.m. in an outdoor pool located on the hotel premises.
The boy was with 2 other teenagers at the time of his death. Police said they believe the group of boys went swimming after returning from a day at Hersheypark, Dorney Park.
The boy is thought to be from a New York address, as police investigations confirmed that the tour was arranged by a New York travel agency. The travel agency assigned a tour guide to the group; however, police reported that the tour guide was not responsible for supervising the teens.
The victim dove in the swimming pool, but was unable to stay above the water for unknown reasons. The other 2 teenagers said they swam toward the boy, but were unable to pull him out because of poor visibility.
A female eyewitness also staying at the hotel made an attempt to save the boy. She was able to pull the boy from the water, and he was then transported to Carlisle Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately the teen succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced dead.
