Last Friday morning, a 5 year old girl in New Jersey was attacked by a dog. The little girl was walking to school with her father when a neighbor’s pit bull viciously attacked her. The girl’s father said that he saw the dog coming from the next house, flying toward them and then tried to attack his daughter. The father tried to protect his daughter by covering her head. As a result of the attack, the girl has deep bites on her arms, and her head has a huge gash requiring stiches.
According to the father, the neighbor’s door was left open. The owner did come out to try to pull the dog away, and he was also attacked by the dog.
When the police arrived, the dog was still attacking the owner, and the police shot the dog. The dog owner said that the dog’s real owner just passed away, and he was taking care of the dog. According to a neighbor, the dog did not bark, growl or give any indication that it was going to charge at the child.
Even if there is no indication that a dog is going to attack, New Jersey dog owners may be found liable for attacks like this most recent one.
